Well? I bet the whole lot of you think your job/contract/gig is the safest in the world and is protected from any recession, pandemic etc.

Apart from NHS doctors I doubt any job is safe. Even then, they are staring at death every day literally.

Markets adjust to suit the environment. The environment will be different moving forward and people will adjust and find new jobs. I predict a downturn in office based jobs and an upturn in home working when companies realise that they can function without offices using modern communications. For us the rage will be virtual businesses with groups coming to together to meet particular challenges and reforming to meet others. New ways of working will come to the fore and being flexible in accepting this will be the key to future employment. The gig economy is in for a boom time but in the short term its all downhill until the current emergency is over.

The civil unrest part is what worries me.

The slow hand in dishing out the financial help will cause it.
Still, I guess because we have never had a revolution, is why we are being treated differently than other European countries in that respect

It's going to take a lot of effort to reboot the economy and they cannot be restarted in isolation.

Once the virus is under control and we gotta hope that this social distancing is going to do that within the next 10 days. There's going to be some large death figures in the next week or two :-(

Let's say you run a car factory in Germany and in two weeks time the German government believes its safe for them to start relaxing restrictions. The factory cannot go back into full production until the Italian, UK, USA, Spain economies have also been rebooted. They will only be able to produce enough product that could realistically be domestically consumed as, and this will come as no surprise, nobody is out there buying new cars at the moment.

You can open domestic services reasonably quickly, hairdressers, gardeners and the like. But they are not high skilled, high paid jobs in any country.

You can probably re-open schools too but it's going to take time to get the full economy back up and humming.

Overall no, I'm definitely not being cocky about it. But it doesn't seem the worst time to have specialised in remote access and remote working - I've certainly had a busy couple of weeks.

In 10 days, IF we are lucky (which based on reports of increased car travel we ain’t) we’ll see peak infections and THEN much slower drop off of new infections, whicH will look positive but it will be slower than they’ve gone up. End of May if we lucky
