I knew this would happen, even when she was told to "go home" people still wouldn’t accept that its racism. Even Shilpa herself admitted that she is being racially abused.

Believe me.. I've been told to "eff of back home" and trust me they didn’t mean that I should drive back to my house in England.

I don’t see why people have such a hang up about admitting to the fact that Britain has a problem with racism.

Its funny.. for a while now everyone has been saying that the Asians should integrate more into British society and along comes Shilpa who has a better command of the English language than the average person, is willing to open herself to a new culture and yet she still gets singled out for being different!

I still havn't watched last nights episode yet (got it taped), but if they have been saying stuff like then, then yes it is CLEARLY racism.

But up until that, it wasn't so clear cut.

There is an awful lot of racism in this country - most of it is inbred, inherited racism, passed down in families, and left to breed throughout school. But I'm not sure if people do it deliberately. Maybe BB will be a turning point - if Jade and Shilpa DO go head to head in an eviction I have complete faith in the British public that they'll at last realise the underlying problems and vote Jade out. Who knows.

I don't think Britain is a more racist place than anywhere else. Perhaps what is worse compared to other countries is the islander mentality whereby you can belong here ONLY if you are born here. Not that it is the only country in Europe but it's one of the few (Catalona springs to my mind....).

Just to mention Europe (and without going far away in countries like USA and Australia where immigrants play a major role), I have seen many foreigners living in EU countries who are considered as dutch, germans, italians, spanish even if they are not born there... sure you have to embrace the culture, speak the language and so on... but you can do it. Here you'll never be an english, no matter if you are more "english" than the average Johnny English. It's the Little Britain mentality that spots a country which is otherwise very open minded and culturally diverse.

My thoughts are that this is clearly a situation, whilst not directly manufactured, certainly encouraged by Channel 4.

Of course it was easy to predict that the three ill bred white trash would form their own clique and the consequences of this is that a beautiful, famous, intelligent Indian woman is bound to be the source of much envy and hostility. So the situation where SS is singled out was obviously desired by Channel 4 in the first place. What has backfired is the element of race that has crept in and the over the top reaction by our multi million pound "race relations" industry and the usual myriad cretin opportunists.

I have not seen the program in question and do not know the context of the arguments, but what I do know is that the English girls involved are as thick as they come.
Telling her to go back where she came from is not necessarily racist. Yorkshiremen do it to Lancastrians, they say it to the grockles in the South West.

As you say, she is being picked on for being different, not specifically for her race.

If she has complained about "being here" then being told to go back from whence she came is understandable.

There will always be a certain amount of animocity in any argument and people will look for any words to hurt or belittle the opposition. Fatties, speccies, greasy haired geeks and clever clogs are all taunted and it is the thing that makes them different that is used against them. In this case it is being foreign.

What is not happening is that these comments are being driven by racial hatred.

Britain has no more a problem with racism than any other country and we are a lot more open about it than many other countries.

It does happen, but I do not believe that it is happening on BB right now. Not from the reports I have seen.
