I've always struggled with that too. If you reveal personal information on a public forum what recourse could you seriously expect?

And vexatious GDPR complaints to the ICO will be treated as being exactly what they are.

Organisations have a right to retain legitimate personal information. In the case of this doylum, retaiging what little information is likely to be stored would be legitimate IMO. The retained information can be used to identify sock-puppetry in the future so is reasonable to retain.

But how do you personally identify the plonker being talked about? What data do you have that enables this?

You're kinda right.

If the guy is referred to using their username and that username is not their own name, then they are not personally identifiable through that message.
Equally, the messaging system is a private system, so the management team do not have access to read every PM sent between other users, we don't know whether you send a message using someone's personal info that you know.

Start deletion process by banning the sockie permanently to prevent any possible personal info from being shared and then removing this thread...

I joined this forum in 2006, but avoided posting. There is a culture of intolerance & bullying and questions often receive aggressive "you are stupid" / "RTFM" responses.

The reason given was, "it frightens people" and I was "wrong". To me, it appeared someone used a ban to end an argument, that they couldnt understand or win.

You were banned for talking rubbish. Dangerous rubbish at that. Personally I think cojak was way too soft.
