I gave up last July - but I've lapsed a few times before and around xmas. Using gum has probably prolonged my withdrawal - but I don't want to kill any innocent passers by or the client. Maybe I'll take a holiday to give up the gum.

If only didn't make you addictive. You could smoke when you enjoy it. Which is sometimes pleasant. Unfortunately, that's not the way it works. If you were not forced to regularly smoke a packet a day the risk of cancer will be negligible.
