Life on the Bench - An unemployed contractors story
Oracle developers dont get paid anywere near that much. But Oracle Application developers do!
Oracle have very good sales people - they sell Financials or Human Resources systems to companies as "off the shelf" systems. Then the company gets them in and realises that they need to do a stupid amount of tweaking before they can actually use them! Let alone report from them.
Oracle Consultants cost about £2k a day, so people like me are a bargain!
Simple as that really.
Hey from another Oracle bod. One area outside Apps where there is good money just now is in Apex (used to be HTMLDB) development. Agents biting my hand off at the moment, especially if you're security cleared.
It does feel good to check your bank account to find 5*£470 a week doesn't it !
which I could get that amount now and I wouyld be laughing and counting my wad all the way out of the bank!
My gig ends next week due to project cancellation/freeze hence not looking forward to benching as the Ex Bit*h has taken all my fallback .
Had a 2nd interview was told I was techie good but I would not be fit into the team as I am quiet!. quiet my ass. Oracle jobs seem to be thin on the ground and I dont want to go into europe/Dublin for tulip low euros. A mate said he'll fix me up with a testing job in the meantime as bills gotta be paid but thats not really what i turned into contracting for.
I think I am going to pop into the pub for some quick shots of vodka's. screw the client. I really need to know where to start with Oracle Apps
what exactly is an "oracle applications developer"? is it someone who develops applications for oracle (the company) or someone who writes applications in oracle?

Its somebody who extends, tweaks, and (more often than not) fixes, Oracle Applications.
Oracle have many Aplications which they sell "out of the box". They always need modifying to fit the clients personal needs.
