I thought if I said the black person that would be the non pc term.

It was used in the Times today, so it's probably ok.

I suspect most people would prefer not to be defined in terms of what they're not. Non-white seems to assume white as 'normal'. Perhaps it's my 70s saffer upbringing where segregation was "whites/non-whites" but it's certainly not a term I'd use.

If you can't describe a person by skin colour anymore, why is it acceptable to describe a person by other physical attributes such as male/female, length, big nose, blond hair, in a wheel chair etc
