Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, claimed that unwritten codes of conduct between the Soviet Union and the western powers during an era of mutually assured nuclear destruction no longer applied, suggesting that the modern relationship was more volatile and unpredictable.

I'd like some of the anti-Russian posters on this thread to explain to me why this is a good thing.

My position is the same as Donald's - why can't we all just get along? Having grown up in the 80s with all the cold war fear - then watching the Berlin wall come down and the tensions go away I can't help but feel very dismayed at this step backwards.
