Keep on posting I say. I don't know every trick in the book, and like that linked article mentions, I don't deal with agents regularly enough to keep my wits about me when they come a-calling.Comment

Do those kind of tricks work on seasoned contractors though? Sure, newbie contractors will fall for them, but once you've been scammed once you tend to wise up.
Personally, I've taken to filtering out anything agents tell me. What I need is some kind of babel fish agent speak <-> truth translator.Comment

They are very difficult to develop. They tried on Tony Blair. What happens is you get a very large dataset as input but nothing gets output. It’s impossible to tell if it’s working or not.Originally posted by bobhopeWhat I need is some kind of babel fish agent speak <-> truth translator.Drivel is my specialityComment

Hi People,
Loving the thread but can we please leave specific names out, I think we all know who XX are - they have nasty lawyers too and the less hassle we have the better
Thanks for your help.Comment

Tend to agree.Originally posted by BuffoonThey are very difficult to develop. They tried on Tony Blair. What happens is you get a very large dataset as input but nothing gets output. It’s impossible to tell if it’s working or not.
The simple catch all could of course be
Agent says anything as an input ---> "I'm a sleazy robbing b@st@rd" as outputComment

I agree. If some agent rang me to arrange an inverview for a job that I didn't know I had been put forward for, there is no way on earth that I would cancel another arrangement (not even a personal one) to go.Originally posted by bobhopeDo those kind of tricks work on seasoned contractors though? It doesn't matter how good he made the job sound, he has already lost my trust becaues he has admitted breaking the golden rule of putting me forward without asking first. (and boy, do agents who break this rule really p1ss me off)

Perhaps not on us 'Seasoned' lot but you can get complacent when dealing with agents and the newbies will fall for it. Perhaps we should check http://www.itcontractor.com/Articles...20&photopage=0 every few months just to remind us what tricks some of them get up to!Originally posted by bobhopeDo those kind of tricks work on seasoned contractors though? Forarmed is to be forwarned etc etcComment

A cynic would suggest the S3 name was picked simply because it was too short to search for on, say, a forum where contractors frequent.Comment
