    My best ever interview

Doing a go live at canary wharf we finished successfully an all nighter about 10am - so we all went all bar one for full English and many beers

3 hours of drinking, get a call from agent asking if I could do an interview at HSBC in one hours time as one of his candidates had dropped out at last minute, sure I say and continue drinking and go to the interview looking like I've been up all night + pissed (years of practice getting on airlines pissed, made me look sober) - finished interview back to the pub

A few days later agent called to offer me the role, I accepted and for the life of me could not remember the interview or what role I accepted

not necessarily so. The really rich are either brilliant & lucky or very naughty.

I think you would have to show some evidence for this. Maybe this and maybe that isn't an excuse to say successful white, middle aged etc men are mostly bad.

Especially, if those people are running successful companies competing in the world and employing people. I'm guessing you don't employ that many people, am I right?

          Lazy thinking Nick.

Also in Canary Wharf - I gave it my best shot in the boardroom at a large IB. They said; "we'll go and make our minds up now" and left me to it. An hour later I walked out into the corridor and the lights were off and they'd all gone home. I guess that's a no then.
...my quagmire of greed....my cesspit of laziness and unfairness....all I am doing is sticking two fingers up at nurses, doctors and other hard working employed professionals...

I'm not so sure. I do agree that "successful white, middle aged, grey haired men mostly achieve their success by being utter bastards" but then I think that virtually all people, regardless of gender, colour of hair or age achieve real success by being utter bastards.

It's no coincidence that many successful high level executives have psychopathic traits.

I don't doubt you have make sacrifices to be successful. But I've met some people that are successful and most are really quite nice, with the odd exception.

One middle age women (there you go) that I know who is successful. The type of person you avoid measuring your achievements against because you are so far behind them, is really lovely. But she doesn't seem to have any kind of personal life. She has friends but just nothing that would take up too much time and get in the way of her career. Her sister, is apparently the same but only more successful.

I know a couple of entrepreneurs that run successful companies and again really quite nice and thoughtful people.

It never ceases to amaze me how people can change when they put a suit on.

That swearing, bullying monster in the boardroom is the same quiet and polite guy at your pub quiz.
The big donor to the local hospital who employs an army of accountants to minimise the very taxes that would have paid for the hospital in the first place.
The philanthropist who sponsors the local football club is the same guy who screws his suppliers for every last penny (and sometimes sends them to the wall in doing so).
The exec who will close a factory and throw 1000 people out of a job without any remorse is the very same person who will cry when his cat dies.
The vamp who flirts outrageously with the chief exec is actually demure and shy.

Or the risk taker that generates job from nothing and keeps on expanding even though he could retire.

Or the women that keeps on investing in firms that the banks deem too risky (even though they are flooded with public money). Again, generating jobs.

The computer programmer who keeps posting sense in the vain hope that people see the positive side.

These are the heros I say.
