I now remember exactly why the **** I got out of permie land.

I interviewed for an Active Directory specialist role (perm) this afternoon. The first 2 hours of the four was sitting down and reading a case study and doing a presentation. I assume this exercise was competency based to see what your subject matter knowledge was like. No. The task was to do a presentation on "equality and diversity with the business". What the eff do I know (or care!) about diversity and equality? I go to work, I do a job. I want to get along with people. It was just the biggest waste of two hours of my life. Then began the two hour grilling of "can you name a time you encountered conflict?" "how did it make you feel?" urgh. Kill me. Hoping the two contract role interviews I have tomorrow come off.

Where I work now, diversity is the buzzword.

There's giant posters everywhere saying it's the most important thing, it's what makes the company great, and extremely profitable..complete with a picture of all the smiling board members and CEO....all white.....all male....all grey haired and middle aged.

Please tell us this was a Public sector role!

They're infested with all that BS, but hopefully most private companies haven't caught the virus too.

I remember one role at British Rail, as it was being sold off and we morphed into Railtrack, we had 'Journey Planner' - five floppies I think, to plan railway journeys and we had some higherups coming up from that London or somewhere via train and used Journey Planner.

They hopped off at Wigen North Western, planner said take taxi to Wallgate so they all jumped in much to mirth of the taxi driver.....

Last permie interview I had they asked "if you were an aminmal what kind of animal would that be, oh and there are no wrong answers". Of Course there are wrong answers because this is amateur psychology bullsh*t.

Lion – Bossy and lazy, but an incredible fighter, puts themselves above all others, likes asserting authority

Monkey – Intelligent, nimble
Ant – Hard worker
Cockroach – usually an unwelcomed visitor, however, a superb survivor very adaptable and resourceful
Dolphin – Very Intelligent, everybody loves dolphins
Butterfly – Always in one stage or another of development, waiting for your day to fly
Gorilla – Gentle, but not one to be riled, vegetarian, good parent, provoke at your own peril
Chameleon – Blends in well, not one to stand out, very sneaky
Owl – Very wise, very good at seeing the big picture, very good at getting what it wants

Generally bad animals, the ones you may want to avoid (at least for this question) include:

Snake – Sneaky and dishonest
Whale – Bloated
Sloth – Lazy
Turtle – Too laid back, unable to strike fast even when necessary
