Well yes. If the place is a mess you keep the deposit. But someone asked about non-smoking being enforceable which I take to mean, could you kick someone out for smoking in breach of contract?

After the fixed term you can kick tenants out for any reason

During the fixed term unless they are breaking the law e.g. drug dealing, using your place as a cannabis factory, using the place for the sex trade and even then you have to be really careful otherwise it can be an illegal eviction, you can't kick them out for simply being in breach of contract.

Could one stipulate no meat-eaters do you think? Or vegan-only? Is a landlord legally allowed to make stipulations like "no sausages in my house" if it is NOT religiously-linked, just eccentricity?

You could be a tenant can move in as a vegan and then start eating meat. A court wouldn't allow you to kick them out during the fixed term as clearly it is unreasonable. Afterwards it wouldn't really matter why you want your property back though you would be advised to say you or a family member needs to live in it not to be seen as a nutter.

A contract you can breach without any consequences is not really a contract surely.

You have minor breaches of a contract. A judge wont evict someone for a minor breach, like cooking and making a bad smell.
