Iran's 'exemplary' refugee hosting efforts praised by UN. Iran has sheltered approximately three million Afghans for almost four decades, a success story international officials say is ‘not told enough’

There's a certain type of parochial Brit who's convinced that the UK is the best place to live in the world, that the NHS is the best health service in the world, and the welfare state is the best welfare state in the world, making the UK a magnet for everyone who isn't British. Original PM seems to suffer from "True Believer Syndrome" in relation to this.

They do seem to accept though, that UK weather is often a bit crap.
Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!

Classic straw man argument, can I have a go?

There is certain type of self hating Brit who thinks we live in the worst country in the world, our food is rubbish, our woman are fugly, anything foreign and exotic is good, we have no culture or traditions of our own, and all of our history is evil and must be in some way atoned for.

And yet a brief read of the story says

'While Afghans resident in Iran - especially those who are undocumented - are often marginalised to the fringes of society as poorly paid manual workers, and are not allowed to apply for citizenship, the Tehran government has also recently taken positive steps such as ordering schools to take in all Afghan children, and embarked on a health insurance scheme that covers refugees.'

          and

'The UN is fostering hopes that the country will ease work permit restrictions and register more undocumented Afghans in the future.'

So it is fostering hopes that something may happen in the future.

Not quite the same as free money now is it?

Still a lot better than a lot of British people's approach to refugees, i.e. let them die and/or insult any country or anyone who tries to help, and refuse to provide any money.
            I'm alright Jack

yes indeed the Uk has never taken any refugees at all ever.

In fact last time I looked the white cliffs of dover are turning red from their blood as we callously gun them down as they cross the channel.

Is the issue with the story purely based on the age of the deportee? Pretty sure that if it was a 46 year old person being deported no-one would care. However, because the person in question is of considerable age, the media have decided to create uproar.

Sweden, like many other countries, has immigration rules. You get deported if you are discovered to be in the country outside of those rules.

Nothing more to be said. Move along.

No, we like our country and so are rather angry when some dim-witted, self deluders go and shaft it for no other reason than they are too lazy to think anything through.
