Yes problem is no one has a clue what May's rules are. What are the conditions of the 5 year stay, what is the cut off date and what are future access rights to pensions, heathcare etc -
Agreeing citizens rights is infinitely more complex than sequencing the human genome, clearly this is all far too difficult.
We should all change our minds and drink two glasses of EU Koolaid.Comment

And people who've stayed for 5 years are allowed to apply to stay permanently anyway under existing rules. So this reduces to nothing at all.Originally posted by Eirikur View PostYes problem is no one has a clue what May's rules are. Ireland is an interesting point here, since the CTA Britons and Irish in each other's countries are not considered foreign, so just like dole dossing in Ireland as a Brit for five years will get you EU PR so long as the CTA remains.Comment

Exactly and there is a known set of conditions for this. No One knows what the conditions are in May's planOriginally posted by VectraMan View PostAnd people who've stayed for 5 years are allowed to apply to stay permanently anyway under existing rules. So this reduces to nothing at all.Comment

This being the most important statement "It wants Britons in Europe to continue to have all current rights for the rest of their lives including freedom of movement rights to work in other countries following Brexit."Originally posted by BlasterBates View PostThe EU have made a very generous offer indeed to UK citizens.

Which many just don't get. The UK union is not equivalent to the EU. UK citizens cannot loose the right to freedom of movement."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". Mark TwainComment

The majority of the Brits in the EU are affluent retirees plus a smattering of low grade itinerant IT workers who couldn't quite hack it in the UK.Originally posted by WTFH View PostShould the same rules be applied to Brits living abroad, or even just Brits in general?
The retirees will die off in the near term and it would be foolish of countries like Spain to cut themselves off from that source of incomeHow fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't thinkComment
