    Certifications for future proofing

    Hi,
I've recently started an identity management role for a large client and am working with a security focused team. I'd like to get involved in the information security space more than I currently am and am looking at certifications which may help me to do so. I have around 15 years of Wintel infrastructure consultancy under my belt where I've dealt with a lot of information security aspects - server hardening, password management, firewalls and a bit of policy writing, but I don't have any security certifications and I've never worked in an official security role.

Any recommendations on which certificates will help nudge the door open a little - I'm thinking a security + or ethical hacking exam possibly....

    Thanks

Becoming a certified gladiator should be pretty future proof

I have ex-colleagues friends who spent a fortune on that very certification and even taking a degree in IT Security. It meant diddly squat when it came to contracts and they never got their money’s worth back.

BTW: If you want to be bummed; send a PM to MF.

          'Windows' and 'Security'?

I remember when MS brought ISA server out, the firewall chaps at the bank I was at didn't stop laughing for weeks...

Look into Comptia Security+ and ISO 27002 to get an entry level knowledge of IT security. After few years, you can try the CISSP.

              newmove,
cheers, I'll go for CompTia SY0-401 (I know it's due to be retired, but it's valid for another 3 years and I'll be able to pass it quicker, especially given the lack of information on SY0-501).

Oh, and please ask these type of questions in Business/Contracts if you want a sensible answer.

Ignore AtW - the only certification worth having can be found here.
