Look into Comptia Security+ and ISO 27002 to get an entry level knowledge of IT security. After few years, you can try the CISSP.

I've recently started an identity management role for a large client and am working with a security focused team. I'd like to get involved in the information security space more than I currently am and am looking at certifications which may help me to do so. I have around 15 years of Wintel infrastructure consultancy under my belt where I've dealt with a lot of information security aspects - server hardening, password management, firewalls and a bit of policy writing, but I don't have any security certifications and I've never worked in an official security role.
