I guess it never occurred to anyone to plug in a spare switch. Or buy a surge protector.
Are we really supposed to believe that a company as large as TCS do not have this level of basic protection against outages?

Either TCS are a complete and utter bunch of incompetent bollock juggling idiots or something else is going on.

Simply switching off and switching back on a server has been the cause of many a network card failure. No surge required.

I had wondered about this, but then remembered Hanlon's Razor.

Never ever restart all boxes at the same time even if you only use a few racks...

Or get backup equipment in DIFFERENT data center...

Typical some of the private sector some of the time.

The beauty of the private sector is that when parts of it go wrong, such as appears to have happened here, there are other bits of it that are ready to take over and do a better job. Sometimes this happens rather quickly.

With the public sector it can take a long time, and often only after a concerted media campaign, questions in the House of Commons, and a maelstrom of online and offline argument and debate.
