Hopefully the infrequent nature of these attacks mean they are doing something productive behind the scenes.

For one they must get the expertise and equipment for bomb making from somewhere. I wouldn't have a clue and I expect if I google it I'd end up on a site that is being actively monitored.

Then if the chemicals required are less common than food stuffs* and everyday items they can be controlled more tightly. Stop or make it very difficult for them at source rather than trying to prevent them during the attack.

    * I heard Birds custard powder could be turned into an explosive somehow, so if true then no chance of any clampdown without banning seemingly innocent stuff and curtailing freedoms for the many, which is the wrong way to go for a free society if it wants to remain free.

Though the problem in this case seems to be men going abroad to get radicalised and information (and possibly equipment) then coming back to act on it, so difficult to track threats entering the country without preemptive detention/interrogation that then starts to raise other concerns.
Maybe tomorrow, I'll want to settle down. Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.

Sorry America, you let the side down big time on this one.

We will stop sharing intelligence for all of 10 mins, the US knows that.

Fertilizer is easy to get hold of and can be used too. Creation of explosives is fairly straight forward from what I have been told by someone who studied chemistry at uni.

Drip, drip news… it gets worse. Manchester bomber Salman Abedi's father and brothers linked to ISIS, Al Qaeda. Salman Abedi's father was fighting alongside a pro ISIS group in Libya.

Maybe these chemistry boffins should be showing how common items/products can be made inert yet still effective for their intended task, to reduce the ways that improvised bombs can be made. The harder it is for them to get their hands on the stuff the fewer the number of incidents. As they've managed with the clampdown on firearms.

Maybe I'm being naive but with the advance of technology there must be ways to prevent or severely restrict the opportunities, from source to attack.

e.g. Explosives detectors in public places that alert the authorities on the quiet so any perp can be tracked and intercepted before reaching their target. I think I read somewhere that they've made a synthetic dog nose that can be at least as sensitive as the real thing, so the tech may already be feasible to a degree.

Its the fine particles in custard powder that cause the rapid burn and resulting mild explosion if contained.

The knowledge is widely available unfortunately the history of explosives is documented.

I believe there is some tracking on the popular ingredients such as fertiliser you have to buy them via an account in quantity. So they do control it more than they used to.

It's the nitrogen in fertilizer which happens to be the key ingredient. Bit hard to fix that one.

I'd much prefer we didn't have British citizens that obviously have no sense of belonging to their country of birth. Why is that?
