The plan should be to fend it off until after the next Holyrood elections when there wont be a nationalist majority.

Also after brexit the EU nationals wont have a vote in it.

This is why they are insisting in it happening in the next 2 years.

If May tries to block indyref2, she may just cause the vote to swing against the UK.

I don't think so, most people don't want it. I think they have misjudged badly.

But if the UK PM is seen to be stopping the Scottish having their say, that's a nice point around which to build an inflammatory message. People don't want a referendum now but people are fickle and the Scots are still fiercely patriotic ready to rise up?

I'm sure it will wind up the crazies but most people can see the logic in holding it later.

I don't think for a minute she doesn't recognise that. She won't block it, but she will have a say over when it is held.

May can explain that there is just too much going on for the government to cope with two sets of negotiations, and that indyref2 will have to wait until Brexit is concluded.

Sturgeon then has a choice. She could call an early, illegal, referendum, thus pissing off the "Nos" and the reasonable Scots who want a second say once all the facts are available, or she can wait.

69/129 Scottish Parliament seats are held by Indy supporting parties
56/59 Scottish Westminster seats held by the SNP.

                  Clearly, no one wants it

Waiting to see how bad the terms of Brexit are might give more ammo anyway.

I know a few people that voted yes who are angry that this is being forced on them again, especially as their reputation in government has been pretty terrible.

People are angry about education and when sturgeon promised at this election that it would be her first priority it's clear that she has completely ditched it.
