oh dear: Tories no longer seen as low-tax party after Philip Hammond's Budget raid

"The Conservatives are no longer seen as a party of low taxation following Philip Hammond’s tax raid on the self-employed, a new poll for The Telegraph shows.

Just one in four voters now regards the Tories as a low-tax party, while almost half of those polled say they trust the Conservatives less as a result of Mr Hammond’s Budget. More than half of voters – 55 per cent – say Theresa May should have honoured the party’s manifesto pledge not to raise taxes.

Figures on voting intentions are equally worrying for the Prime Minister, with almost half of those questioned saying they are less likely to vote Tory because of the Budget, including one in seven Conservative voters.

The Prime Minister and her Chancellor have faced a rebellion from their own MPs following the decision to increase National Insurance Contributions for self-employed people."

Yougov polling suggests an even wider Tory - Labour margin

The Tories are doing this, knowing full well there is no credible opposition to cause them pain at a forthcoming election. With Corbyn at the top, even a massive poster campaign in 2020 reminding the electorate of broken manifesto promises and a raising of taxes will have no effect.

We are currently in a period of single party politics, and we're all going to suffer for it.

So it's single pro-business party that is in full control, one would imagine they'd use the situation to push their pro-business agenda, making a lot of tax reforms to prevent future Labour Govts from easily increasing stealth taxes... BUT what we are actually getting is more tax increases and total failure to cut expenditure which they had mandate for.

Why anybody on here expects that a credible (still tax raising) Labour opposition would have resulted in Tory tax cuts???

In Autumn budget we'll see new tax assault, Brexit cover gives them free hand to do whatever they want.

Because they're a bunch of incompetent dimwits, probably

That fact must have something to do with it at any rate.
