It's unclear but in the story with Adam and Eve and the snake, God says "I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children". So I suppose the system was the same but much less awkward... perhaps the way some animals just plop them out

I'm pretty sure current evolutionary theory is that by standing up the pelvic cavity has to narrow. In time evolution will weed out those that die in child birth. Oh, hold on ...

It wasn't an apple and who knows. Maybe our heads got bigger (within the story context obviously)

To get Eve, it cost us a rib. To get something halfways decent and emotionally stable, that would have cost us an arm and a leg.

It's got to be the crappest of all bible stories - getting into deep tulip for having one of your five a day! If she'd turned it into scrumpy, got smashed on it and peed on a rose bush, fair enough.
