What's the point of catching 5,000 people with higher tax bills when you've suddenly had 15,000 exit public sector, go on the dole and claim everything that goes with that? Complete lack of joined up thinking and a lower overall tax break. Even Suity and Wilmslow wouldn't cock it up this much.Work in the public sector? Read the IR35 FAQ hereComment

Losing 15,000 lots of tax but saving 15,000 lots of salary.
And that's assuming that the 15,000 aren't replaced with other inside IR35 contractors, employees, or Crapita consultants, all of whom will pay tax.
The real issue with all this is nothing to do with tax and everything to do with the Public Sector losing expertise. It then easily costs more than it saves. As with most things in today's politics it's a symbolic political gesture that simply hasn't been thought through. But that's what the public likes these days. Will work inside IR35.
