    The World's Health Service

    Have to admire their cheek

Wife and son 'dumped American dementia sufferer in UK' | Daily Mail Online

Revealed: American dementia sufferer's wife and son flew him to Britain from his Los Angeles home then DUMPED him in a car park without any identification and vanished
Roger Curry, 76, was abandoned by his wife and son in Hereford in 2015
They flew the dementia sufferer to Britain from his home in Los Angeles
He was found at a bus station and authorities spent months trying to learn ID
Mr Curry was flown home eight months later and is under care in California
Kevin Curry told Panorama, which is being screened at 8.30pm tonight, that he had nothing to do with the abandonment of his father in England.

He said his father became ill when they were visiting England on holiday and that he asked a friend to take him to hospital.

But he could not explain why he had left Mr Curry in England for eight months without telling anyone who he was.

Because of the high cost of care in America, elderly people are sometimes abandoned at hospitals in a practice called granny-dumping.

A man in his fifties from Taunton, Somerset, was arrested last April on suspicion of kidnapping Mr Curry. He is on police bail and has not been charged.

man this highlights two obvious problems

    1. the American healthcare system or lack therefore

    2. the image of the NHS as a free to all healthcare buffet

there's a happy medium in there somewhere but the issue is so politically emotive that reasoned discussion of the options rarely get a big enough platform to be discussed

So what's your solution? Don't allow anyone into the UK who isn't 100% fit, or simply to dismantle the NHS? And how are you going to blame this one on the EU?
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

Don't allow anyone into the UK without an effective health insurance. Easy.

But, but, but, that's a workable solution. How dare you!

Can't see a down side - except longer queues at passport control. Are there any countries that mandate this already?

It still won't stop people like that dumping their parent.

Are you sure? How much would it cost to insure someone with dementia (and who'd insure them anyway?)

I would expect it to be part of the Visa Application. The Insurance would need to remain live throughout your stay otherwise your Visa becomes invalid.

So no change at passport control.

If their motive was money it would. It would cost too much to insure and therefore get a Visa.
