Get paid £50k a year from the tax-payer, for heating ones country pile, what?
The extraordinary deals mean the wealthy landowners are guaranteed to get the payments for 20 years. Almost £800million has been set aside to cover the payments this year and costs are expected to rise to more than £1billion by 2020. Meanwhile thousands of homeowners across the country struggle to heat their homes and pay their winter bills.

There is a cap of about 1,314 hours per year to stop people using heat endlessly.
Payments are at the maximum rate up to the cap, then at a lower rate which just covers the cost of using the biomass boiler.
Landowners can charge tenants of homes on the estate for the heat they use as well as claiming the government money.
Outdoor swimming pools can have biomass heating but cannot be claimed for.
