You have to pay the license fee to access the services. So I'm not wrong. You can't legally watch Channel 4 on your TV without paying the fee. I presume you can watch channel 4 live and its catchup on your laptop without paying the fee?

Yes just like the EU we have to pay a membership fee even if we don't use the facilities you can see why people hate the TV license & the EU.Originally posted by d000hg View PostYou have to pay the license fee to access the services. They recently changed it so it covered online as well after lobbying from the BBC.
However as the fee pays for the BBC if Aunty disappeared it would be difficult to justify the license fee.Comment

Like with the EU most people don't realise what the license fee covers.Originally posted by vetran View PostYes just like the EU we have to pay a membership fee even if we don't use the facilities you can see why people hate the TV license & the EU.

I've heard people rant about not watching BBC on TV but they listen to BBC radio or use the BBC's websites."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment

It is indeed - they changed the rules last year to cover online services (including catch-up) which is why you are now asked if you have a TV license if you try and view anything online. Except porn. Ahem, allegedly.Originally posted by Eirikur View PostYour presumption is wrong

Would that be the websites they are about to close and not sell as a commercial success?
If you are going to use the TV license to illustrate the benefit of the EU you are on a sticky wicket.Comment

They are closing websites to save money. Hence the backlash when they decided they were closing the cookery website. The beeb argued, correctly, the content is available elsewhere on the web so why do they have to provide it?Originally posted by vetran View PostI provided a handy linky.

I wasn't the one who initially brought up the licence fee in a thread about leaving the "club" of the EU.Originally posted by vetran View PostIf you are going to use the TV license to illustrate the benefit of the EU you are on a sticky wicket."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment

nope you didn't but it is genius! Its pretty close to the EU's Modus operandi and demonstrates why leaving the EU is so important. You must pay this tax to watch all these things although the money goes elsewhere!Originally posted by SueEllen View Post

Official TV Licensing website - Do I need a TV Licence to watch subscription services like Netflix, Amazon or Now TV?Originally posted by Eirikur View PostYour presumption is wrong
It seems pretty clear that catch-up TV only requires a license on iPlayer. But live TV requires the license regardless of how you consume it.You don’t need a TV Licence if you only ever use these services to watch on demand or catch up programmes except if you’re watching BBC programmes on iPlayer.
Remember, if you watch or record live TV on any device, you need to be covered by a TV Licence.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

You can listen to the radio and browse the internet without a TV license.Comment
