    Excellent analysis by Peter Hitchens.

Magical Realist or Iron Lady? Mrs May's speech on the EU examined - Mail Online - Peter Hitchens blog

The UK in the long term will be very much like Switzerland. I suspect the freedom of movement will be very much in tact in all but name.

My prediction will be that if it walks like a single market, and quacks like a single market, then it will be a single market, whatever Mrs May calls it. As for her position on the separate issue of the Customs Union, Mrs May ventures into a sort of magical realism. It seems from what follows that we are not be in *the* Customs Union, but also to be sort of in *a* customs union.
...and in the short term until the UK hammers out the "Swiss" deal, watch for the UK not exiting the EEA, of which they are now members.

In other words as with Margaret Thatcher, John Major and David Cameron in spite of her valiant attempts, in the end the EU will be her nemesis.

    I'm alright Jack

Actually they were on the verge of recovery in 2015, when there was an upturn in their growth rate, which if sustained would have made it easier for them to support their debts.
Then they made the mistake of electing the posturing Socialists who closed the banks for a month and threatened Germany.
Germany said, fine leave the EU and Euro if you want.
And the Greeks went quiet for a while, before the whining started again, but by then the damage by Syriza had been done.
      Hard Brexit now!

The day after the referendum I predicted a "work permit" system. That's is the most likely option.
The really sad thing is all this Brexit waste of time and money was preventable by a little pragmatism.
Because Freedom of Movement is interpreted differently in practice by different countries.
For example - you try moving to Switzerland without a job. It's impossible. You need a permit before you can rent a flat etc etc.

Only in Britain were the borders opened wide for anyone in the EU to come, with very little in the way of paperwork and bureacracy to put you off.
Yet again our politicians failed and blamed the EU for their failings.
          Hard Brexit now!

If you make cretinous, ignorant remarks I'll call you a cretin.
Feel free to put me on ignore if your snowflake feelings can't take it.

For you its a competition, you try to make up for you insecurities by making this into a battle. When you feel you are losing you insult. I don't take it personally but I know for you the argument is lost so you just insult. It's not a competition to me.

I put people on the ignore list because they just don't add anything. Some good points but again I'm leaving this thread because when a couple of you disagree you insult and the thread spirals to it's death.

Milan, that line says a great deal about you. I really wish you would just have confidence in yourself.
