Particularly ironic that neither of you are actually subject to this fee, yet seem so keen on preserving it for others.

Any one of the options you outlined are justification enough on their own for being peeved at this anachronistic stealth tax, but, for the record, it is the arrogant bully-boy tactics of the licensing bodies that I find particularly repellent. As, it seems, do quite a few others, both on here and elsewhere.

It is hardly likely to unduly bother me though, for as I outlined in some detail in my initial post, I have worked around it.

You pair really ought to either stick to moderating the forum OR contributing as non-mods. It is abundantly plain that you are both incapable of managing both aspects.

Why do you claim that I am not actually subject to the licence fee?
My TV Licence runs from the 1st of October each year. The licence is in my name and I pay for it myself. Not my wife, not someone else.
I have worked in Switzerland in the past, along with many EU countries. For IT contractors with high value skills, travel is a fact of life.

Wish I could get rid of the TV Licence but apparently the misses just can't do without a couple of SOAPs. Shame there isn't a reduced fee for just the BBC iplayer or different payment plans.

I've deprogrammed BBC1 from my set.

I do not want the state sponsored, suicide inducing social engineering bile that is East Enders exuding from my TV screen even for the few seconds it takes until I've realised I'm on the wrong channel for "Triple D".

No - but I am subject to a similar fee. This fee funds a few Swiss channels, and despite these being also funded by advertising, the licence fee is much higher than the one you're paying for. Further, it's far more difficult to avoid paying than the UK licence, since it covers also being able to receive TV over the internet - whether you do or not. Even if you have no internet and no tv, you are still liable if you have a radio in your car!

On top of the license fee, I also pay for cable TV access. The only way to avoid that is to remove the wiring. Blanking out the socket isn't sufficient.

Nope. As I've outlined, I've got far more to complain about than you. But if you'd bothered to read my posts, you'd notice that not once have I suggested that the licence should be preserved.

Netflix and Amazon have shown that state funding isn't necessary to make good programs.
