Thank goodness for the open borders of Schengen, which allowed this nutcase terrorist to travel from Germany, into France unchecked, then on in to Italy, again unchecked, where fortunately an alert police patrol was able to stop him.

There've been Turks since the 60s. The other big (and problematic) group are the North Africans (Tunisians etc). DUnno why they came to Germany but in general they predate this crisis - they've been there since the 90s although its quoite conceivable that more have entered taking advanatage of the crisis.

There is no point explaining Schengen to people with a little Islander mentality. They don't understand at various points on a continent you can just walk, cycle, ride a donkey or drive across borders as the border is too long to police.
