In the same way that Yahoo being slightly later to market than Apollo 11, Google replaced Altavista and Facebook replaced Myspace timing in launching your world dominating product is everything.

It's not the first version that wins, its the second version built avoiding the biggest flaws of the first one that wins. And that definitely wasn't friendsreunited and Names Faces Places... I'll give Jerry one thing though that name is better than facebook.

I thought that NFP was a LinkedIn type thing for business? Wasn't he trying to overtake CUK or something like that?

It predated FriendsReunited, LinkedIn and was way earlier than Facebook. It was a mix of all three before Social media was a twinkle.

I bet he still tells people he could've been a contender.

In which case Linkedin beat him by being second to market at the right time. Timing is everything in this world and it seems that being there first isn't the right option its launching at the time the market actually wants what you are offering....

Heck 6degrees made a bid for that market circa 1998 but that was rather too early to do such things (you really need programmatically slurp the email addresses of a members contacts to make it workable).

Agreed. He was just to early to market & didn't have the money or charisma to make it big.

We've had a few successes on here. AtW built a business off an idea he had about backscratchers or something, some rich accountants etc. But then some misses. When NickFitz posted about having a Pen in one hand and an Apple in another, he never thought to 'ugh' put them together!
