I remember at 19 being open mouthed in shock that someone would open their car door and just throw the rubbish from their car on to the road. What I was shocked by most is that:
    1. It was dry rubbish e.g no liquid containers that could leak
    2. There was a bin a metre away.

The difference is due to council cuts roads are cleaned less frequently.
I've had to explain to kids on our street that leaving litter is a bad thing. They seemed genuinely surprised, like it was up to someone to clean up after them. When I was a lad, if you littered and an adult spotted you got an earful. But i agree with you about council cuts.

There are plenty of reasons for people to move (or don't) to a different country and not all of them are economic.

One of the reasons why Brits are not moving to other EU countries is the language barrier. While the immigrants have the benefits like English being an international language thanks to the Internet and US/UK influence in the entertainment industry, compulsory foreign language in primary and secondary school and english being relatively easy to learn language. Brits have a history of over relying on others to speak english and have neglected their own foreign language skills. Most of the EE languages are completely alien, some of them even with a different alphabet - cyrillic, exacerbating the problem.

Speaking about foreigners in UK not willing to integrate or learn English, you should check the British expat communities in Spain fro example - a lot stick to themselves, speaking basic or no spanish after years in the country.

I did meet a German on holiday in US and he did comment that we made the right decision to leave the EU, seems that not all Germans are content.
Lots of other EU nationals don't like the EU.

Lots have views like Corbyn as well.

It's an interesting one. I've met many people who think Germany is our natural enemy, still affected by 20th centruy history, maybe that's why.
              Language is another reason.

This may change if we manage to turn the UK into a complete basket case.

Have you been to the Costas? Mostly tattoed, elderly Brits spending their small state pensions in British owned businesses in British ghettoes. While causing a huge burden on the SPanish NHS.
Reminded me of some Muslim communities in Britain in terms of their insularity.

On the surface they have much in common. I lived and worked there for a bit. Once you dig a bit you find surprising cultural differences.

They are happy to be led. They love heirarchy and seek respect through seniority. If you are used to a UK work culture of taking ownership and challenging authority for the greater good - you will struggle in Germany, where tenure counts for a lot and working outside of your mandate is seen as taking work off another guy. Cost of living much same as UK. Most people rent long term in Germany.

The basic reason more Brits don't go there and settle is because we by and large don't speak German. You can get by in work without German but if you want to integrate - which you must to have a life comparable to back home- you need German language skills, and it's not easy to learn as an adult. 7 years from nothing to fluency.

Kids do what their parents do. So if their parents cross the road on a red man then they do the same. If they throw litter on the floor they will as well.

I think I was told you got arrested for throwing litter. Then when I finally twigged it wasn't true I had learnt to put it in the bin automatically. However luckily because they now fine people.

Spain is a recent joiner to the EU? Blimey and Germany fantastic facts we learn from the Bremoaners!

From the link the majority emigrating state its for work.

Agree we Brits are rubbish at speaking foreign languages. Though I don't hear much of Radical British pensioners blowing themselves up in Spain because someone forgot to respect their rights to eat Tomato Ketchup & wear hankies on their heads. Watch out for the new "Daily Mail state" that insists hanging is too good for them<Specify here> and people that misspell words need flogging.

The Spanish like the retirees because they are a net benefit spending their pensions and having their healthcare funded by the UK. My understanding though is that they expect them to pay for themselves if they need an interpreter and legal forms etc are in Spanish.
Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.
