Escalators are damn easy - you put your large case on the step before you and your hand luggage either on your back or the side near the hand rail.
You make sure that you can carry your large case up and down 10 steps with preferably one hand but two.
You also don't put valuables in places people expect so you aren't pick pocketed however as you know exactly where they are you can access them quickly and swap their location once you are at the airport.
The main issue is you see is women with 38 inch cases which clearly have too many shoes and/or books in so they can't carry them.His heart is in the right place - shame we can't say the same about his brain...Comment

It does sound like a good weight loss strategy though, should he need it. What do you reckon he'd lose lugging a fully loaded suitcase nearly 300 miles without eating anything?
