Just make sure you get the line straight. Telling a potential client "He thought I was an idiot and I didn't" doesn't sound as impressive.

If he was the programme manager - you'd probably want to up that to Project Director or SRO

I left two short contracts off, one they got rid of me, another I got rid of them. I didn't do anything during this contracts so why should I mention them at all?

Because you may apply for something that needs rigorous background checks and things might start to unravel? For a bog standard gig then it's just your call really

Yes I did go through rigorous checks when I started working for a credit card company. But the agency doing the checks is not the recruiter, so I did mention those contracts to that agency, no problem at all.

several times. And it's not lying, not changing the dates of the other contracts.

My cv is my company brochure. Go to any company's website they won't mention their failures as references on there.

I've had a couple of toxic contracts. Both are on my CV, and I've got my story straight for both of them. Never had any issues during interviews - and even in one contract helped stop the previous (toxic) client getting work there...

It's never good when it's your last client that was toxic though.

I had one contract where I was lured into a role under false pretences. They never told me I'd be serving up links to porno sites to unsuspecting mobile users.

Didn't want them on my CV.

Fortunately I was doing a bit of work on the side & I bigged that up instead and I could get references from that client.

Just make sure ,though, that you can always account for what you put on your CV.

There seems to be a trend of going back 3 years or so for references and/or evidence of you working where you said you were working when you said were working there.

So, while it's tempting to tweak dates by a month or so to make the gaps smaller, I'd recommend against it.
