Cool car, but can you get one for under £10K?

At what point does owning an older car go from "Oh dear, you see that 20+ year old thing he's driving" to "Wow, is that a future classic?"

A "classic car" is usally mint, unlike a banger. Sometimes that's the only distinction, not the make of car.
e.g. a perfect old Mini is classic, a tired old one isn't.

Indeed. I used to have a 1956 Vauxhall Velox. They made 250,000 of them over a period of 6 years. There are less than 25 left. At the time they were just a family saloon that rusted so no-one kept them. In the same way that most MK1 Cortinas these days are Lotuses or GTS. The saloons have mostly all gone.

                  Aston Martin Vanquish
                  Audi R8 V10 Plus
                  Bentley Continental GT3-R
                  BMW i8
                  Corvette Z06
                  Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat
                  Ferrari Enzo
                  Ferrari F12 Berlinetta
                  Ferrari 458 Italia
                  Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4
                  Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4
                  McLaren F1
                  McLaren 650S
                  McLaren 570S
                  Pagani Huayra
                  Pagani Zonda S
                  Porsche 911 Turbo S

There are a few road legal cars which match/are a shade faster 0-60 than the Tesla S but they
are typically rare/race tuned specials costing seven figures (e.g. Ferrari LaFerrari, 0-60 2.6secs; Pagani Zonda R 0-60 2.6 secs)

One HUGE drawback .. although it costs a shed load, because its so innocuous the Tesla S has about the same pussy magnet/head turning effect as its Vectra lookalike; u ain't likely to pull page 3 stunners cos ur drivin' it.

I like the Tesla S styling. It's quite understated.
