Leeching? Don't blame the players, blame the game that Bliar and co put in place of making the dole a career option that is better paying than low-paid work. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn't exist -
A friend of mine, his missus have just given up work, because loss of tax credits + childcare costs means she effectively works for nothing.Originally posted by Hobosapien View PostIt's easy to have more people in employment when they're 'all' on part time work doing 16 hours a week so they can leech all the benefits.
Never mind, that universal tax credit system fiasco will one day kill off tax credits for good and do the job that Osborne chickened out of.
The whole system is a farce and needs complete overhaul. Big companies are paying tiny wages and letting the tax payer subsidise the costs through benefits and tax credits. And then the huge profits go to tax havens.Comment

No I blame the players. My best mate at school turned into the typical lazy lay at home slob with his wife pumping out kids for the benefits.
Even his mum said he was a waste of space. Though some of it was lack of opportunity in a typical dying northern town. Those with any ambition got out at the first opportunity.
If no one wanted to play the game they'd change the game.Maybe tomorrow, I'll want to settle down. Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.Comment

So when the UK does a Brexit, the pound drops even further and 250,000 workers leave the workforce every year without being replaced and it becomes an Economic basket case this will have.Originally posted by minestrone View PostMaybe because it is an economic basket case? Did you think of that?
a) a positive effect on wage growth
b) a negative effect on wage growth
Did you think of that?Last edited by BlasterBates; 21 July 2016, 12:09.I'm alright JackComment

Might it have no effect on wage growth? I'm only asking because you seem not to be able to calculate all possible outcomes. It reinforces my belief that you have limited analytical thinking.Comment

True but that will just bring more immigrants here...Originally posted by minestrone View PostWages will rise anyway with the national living wage.
If you step back and look at the history:-
1) Brown introduced tax credits
2) to work that required the minimum wage to be created
a) the minimum wage and tax credits resulted in the 16 hour week as standard for many people
b) it also encouraged eastern europeans in..
3) to remove tax credits wages need to rise (introducing the national living wage)
a) companies are reducing wages in any way possible
b) more eastern europeans are coming
As for BlusterBates - why does he think those eastern europeans are going to return home - they can't earn anything like the same money there...merely at clientco for the entertainmentComment

My hope is that they get rid of tax credits for EU migrants pretty quickly.
As has been said McDonalds get to hire some eastern for 16 hours on minimum wage and the state has to house, feed and educate an entire family on the back of it.Comment

Arrive in UK, take part time job on min wage. Wife/GF looks after kids in rented house. State pays for rent, medical care and schooling.
What a cushy lifestyle, are they going to get all this back in Eastern Europe?Comment
