Green Taxes? What's the Problem?

Global warming is pretty much universally accepted in the scientific community as fact (have a good look at the research). The only ones saying otherwise are those lobying for the big oil companies and/or the neo cons.

The question is what we can and should do about it.

Do you mean global warming is accepted as fact or that humans are the sole cause of global warming and that it is all our fault ?

I am not disputing the fact that the world is warming up, I am however disputing the fact that it is all our fault and that it is not a natural occurance.

I think everyone accepts that global warming is a fact, as evidenced by changing weather patterns everywhere. But is it as a result of man-made human emissions or a natural part of the earth's cycle? What's the cause-and-effect reasoning? Anyone who's read more (I confess I haven't) care to enlighten us?

there is a good article by one of the key opinion leaders on the myths being spread by those with vested intrests in oil production. I'll try and find it.

The main argument seems to be the rate of warming has increased since the industrial revolution. But how much is natural cyclic warming and how much is additional warming from man made greenhouse gas emissions.

Personally I don't doubt the earth is warming, but I'm not convinced it is man made. The earth has been much warmer and far colder than this, without any human involvement.

I mean global warming is happening and the weight of the evidence points towards man contributing to it.

As a side note I know a very intelligent scientist who is convinced that global warming is utter tulipe, however he is mental about recycling and recycles everything he can as he is convinced that we need to recycle for the good of the world.


To me this says a lot as he is highly intelligent and quite happy to do his part in trying to save the world by recylcling but still denounces global warming as utter tosh.

It could be wrong, sometimes despite all the evidence the conclusions are wrong, but seeing as though:

A/ We have the technology to reduce immissions
B/ If they are right, and there is a good chance, we are fooked

I'd say it's best to cut back.

Its not really the issue of this debate

Its the fact the the politico's are busy making hissing sounds like car mechanics when they look under the hood of your motor car, and are going to justify tax increases, which will be of dubious benefit to the environment and huge benefit to New Labour.

I say let nature take its course, ... ITIW Putin, when asked about global warming, stated that most Russians would probably welcome a few degrees rise in temperature.

And think about it, if you see what NL have done to the country, why do you want to fill their war chest to "save" the environment?

Well I think we can all agree that all this is to Labour is a convenient excuse to raise more taxes to get themselves more money. They will manage to pass a law that entitles them to take taxes to pay of thier hideous debts at some point in the near future i'm sure...

In a globalised world where the value of labour is diminished, it makes sense for governments to shift away from sourcing tax via employment to sourcing via consumption.
