The wailing remainers/Uk haters seem to think that the UK will be punished if it leaves the EU. I would suggest that a Brexit will empower people not just in the Uk but in the EU. Business will not tolerate any indulgence by the EU into making it difficult for the UK, particularly as the UK is a net importer of EU goods. Although they might like to administer retribution their position will be weakened and they will end up doing deals with the UK just as soon as they can. As Philip Johnston argues in the Telegraph today Brexit is part of a negotiation with the EU despite what they may say - just as the Scottish referendum brought about considerable concessions to the Scots the fear of the word "NO" is the ultimate negotiating weapon when you are prepared to carry it through.

I was wondering this too. Scotland was known in the morning if I remember correctly, but the 2015 GE exit poll revealed at 10pm turned out to be spookily accurate even though everybody spent the first few hours asking why it could be so wrong.

I think there's more reason to worry about it happening the other way around. It doesn't take much for some future British government to get into power on the back of "protecting British jobs" and introducing tarrifs on EU goods, which will then be reciprocated. People are going to vote en masse tomorrow for something that politicians have promised will protect their jobs so it's not at all far fetched.

The worst-case scenario for the EU is for the UK to prosper following a Brexit.

A German industrialist wants to carry on trade in a pragmatic way. That's totally understandable. But he's not a French politician.

The EU leadership would have two choices. Either accept the democratic will of the people of the UK, carry out their own reforms and work co-operatively with the UK.

Or play hard-ball and try to punish the UK for the "wrong" decision. Does a French politician care if the German car industry takes a hit in order to preserve the EU political project?

Not much will happen before 5am. But the turnout – which could come at 3am – will be important: a high turnout – with more young people voting - is likely to mean a good night for Remain.

Remain is likely to take a healthy lead once the early declarations are made with the results for pro-EU regions - Wales, Scotland and London - making their results known by 5am.

But the first indication of whether Leave has done enough will come at 5am when the result for the Labour dominated north east of England is known.

I think I might just go to bed and get up early. 7 hours of speculation and punditry between 10pm and 7am will be too much to bear.

No exit polls as there is no previous voting to spot any changes. It depends on how close it is, the main results will come through after 2am, if one side is out doing the polls then you maybe able to predict a result, however if it is close you will only know when one side exceeds 50% of the total votes cast.

That will change, if we vote to leave expect another referendum (and another, and another... ) until we give in and agree to Remain!
