If DC thinks Brexit is such a bad idea, why do we get to vote?

A party feeling forced to make a promise - and following through on it - because they are afraid the electorate won't vote for them.

Unfortunately, that IS democracy in action...

**** me, Dad's Army all over again
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

It's called democracy... they promised to give a referendum pre-election and DC also made clear the government would not be neutral.

There's a difference between making a case forcefully and hysterically, in order to frighten people into a position. Both sides have been hysterical at times, but the Gov't machine needs to be held to higher standards. When you have an HMT perm secretary signing off (on the front page) on an epically dodgy dossier and Hamface lobbying big businesses for Brexit warnings while contemporaneously telling parliament that "he rules nothing out" (to give two or many possible examples), you know there's something fundamentally corrupt at the heart of Gov't. I'm not naive about this, I fully expected a hard fight, but if Hamface thinks he's walking the line here, he's utterly deluded. There's no way he'll avoid a vote of no confidence, regardless of the outcome. He'll win, but Hamface and Gidiot will be lame ducks. He'll have to nominate a date (much earlier than 2019) or face getting zero Gov't business through. Won the battle, lost the war.

I don't have a problem with the campaign arguments. I particularly like the Brexiteers getting hysterical about Turkish immigration. Shame they didn't check that Turkey actually isn't in the EU
