I knew a contractor that put down a deposit for the Mini Cooper S when it came out all those years ago, without test driving it, pre-launch.
When it arrived he drove it for a few weeks, took it back to the dealers and sold it. Horrific engine with awful noise.
Luckily they were so popular with idiots he got all his money back as people could jump the waiting list.
Now many years later, they are very costly to run, the engine is a joint development between Chrysler and Rover. Total piece of crap. Add the supercharger and you have a nightmare.

BMW complained about the performance of the engine. According to Ward's Auto, Erich Sonntag of BMW described the Tritec engine as old fashioned and not very effective on function, performance and fuel efficiency
