    Relegated to a door stop.

The 320 door has to be pulled in to the cabin in order to shorten slightly before being pushed out. The cabin pressure as you say has to be overcome - which is huge at altitude. It takes a few second on landing to equalise the pressure. The bits of the door that move in form a decompression protection device when they lock into the fuselage.
The max pressure difference from altitude alone could only be 1 atmosphere - so not significant. But at 500 mph it might be a lot.

500mph generates a big enough pressure difference to keep a huge plane with hundreds of people onboard in the air. So presumably the speed would also generate a very significant pressure difference over the door too.

I have witnessed nose caps for aircraft being filled and painted just like car body panel's

You can have the best engineers and calculations only to be let down by maintenence.

Although this is the approved method.

Once you see how those aircraft mechanics behave it put me right off flying.

            Obviously a joke

The engine cowling is bolted on anyway.

Not very comforting for nervous passengers though....

I think what I said about the speed creating lots of pressure must be wrong too. Presumably the max possible there is also 1 atmosphere.

Is there much atmosphere in the cranial region?

I think it is called speed tape and can cost several grand per roll. It's used to protect seals while they cure amongst other things
