I remember Allistair Heath advocating inheritance so that people could start businesses. Which is great - if you have rich parents who die when you are young.

Maybe everyone over 18 should be given a one-off business start up amount. And everyone gets it on their 18th birthday.

All in the cause of entrepeurenism. Nothing to do with inflating away debt.....

They haven't worked out how to introduce inflation into the system (to wipe out debt mountain) without increasing interest rates, which given the size of the debt mountain, would be fecking enormous, unpayable and therefore increase the size of said debt mountain.

        It's all Blair's fault.

            From the comments :-

If people in positions of wealth and power can't control their "lower-downs" with money and thereby maintain their position, then they won't be interested.

            Quite....

Of course, MPs would then have to live on £100 per week. Actually I have changed my mind - I quite like this idea.

He'd need a few weeks to get the Stannah fitted to make it worth his while; otherwise he may as well stay where he is and stick with outcalls.

No. Bogus asylum seekers would be deported (if the government could get its act together). Genuine asylum seekers also wouldn't get until asylum was granted and they become resident.

Another leftie idea to attract more unwelcome, unchecked and unnecessary immigration to the land of freebies....
Wrong. The idea has been mooted by groups of all political complexions. I first heard of it in the mid 80s proposed by a Conservative think-tank. It appeals to right-wingers because it would mean a smaller state (scrap the DHSS or whatever it's called now) and reduce benefit dependency (people don't loose out if they get a job).

Thats one of the motives behind the idea. A fellow of the RSA has been talking about it for a while.
                    a) as a way to allow for the coming reduction in jobs caused by automation
                    b) as a way to reduce the cost of government.

Its a sound idea in principle because it allows you to move from a society that needs to be in a non job for 40 hours a week, to a position where the majority of people are free to live and contribute as they want to. Yes there will be lots of people that will stay in bed but society doesn't need them anyway.

If that is how it would genuinely be implemented then I'd vote for it.
