It's funny when you hear ex-Tory ministers, especially those who support Brexit, slagging off current Tory ministers for lacking a clue and being totally useless....."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JR -
And ex-PMs talking about the Middle East as though they had nothing to do with the current situation.Originally posted by SueEllen View PostIt's funny when you hear ex-Tory ministers, especially those who support Brexit, slagging off current Tory ministers for lacking a clue and being totally useless.....The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn't existComment

Yes Germany allows its Steel industry cheap electricity. The UK could do the same under EU rules. If that was the only problem they would have course done this, as Tata would have lobbied for it and the government would probably have agreed.
After a Brexit Britain will spend it's time trying to broker trade deals with all the strings attached. There will be loads of unwanted legislation being brought in to get deals with the EU, China, India and US.
So that'll be the same as now then.
and what happens if Scotland leaves the UK and remains in or joins the EU, so having left to close the border to the EU, we have a huge "hole" in the North, and the free border with Ireland.
Nicola Sturgeon can hiss and spit all she likes, Scotland isn't going anywhere in the foreseeable future.
There is absolutely no way a British government can close the border between the UK and Ireland without starting a civil war.
The 'open border' with between the UK and the Irish Republic dates back to the 1922 Agreement.
So even after a Brexit and huge barbed wire fences errected around Dover and Folkstone, EU citizens will be able to take a flight to Dublin or Glasgow and freely wander into Britain without a passport check. Newly arrived EU citizens will need a visa to work legally.

I very much doubt EU citizens will need visas, can you quote any pro-Brexit, minister on that, and even if you could can you name the 326 MP's that would support that ?Originally posted by Flashman View PostNewly arrived EU citizens will need a visa to work legally.
If there was a visa would they not be like Swiss visas that are automatically rubber stamped if you produce an EU passport.
Immigration and Brexit are completely separate issues. The vast majority of immigrants in the UK are non-EU, and the number of EU immigrants in the UK are more or less matched by emigrants to the EU. That was established after a parliamentary question.
There's no reason Britain couldn't be like Germany that has just as many EU-migrants but a very low number of non-EU migrants, and quite low net migration.
Immigration is a "fake issue" that has nothing to do with Brexit but is simply used as a populist argument. If you stopped non-EU immigration you would have a very stable population.I'm alright JackComment

They will need visa to work or live in UK, just same as it is with USA for UK visits.Originally posted by BlasterBates View PostI very much doubt EU citizens will need visas, can you quote any pro-Brexit, minister on that, and even if you could can you name the 326 MP's that would support that ?Comment
