In the case of steel, you can hardly blame Europe as the previous posts have shown.
I beg to differ with the right honourable member for upper cretindom.
If we can get rid of the leeches like yourself the UK can still punch above its weight.

If everyone was like me there would be no debt, self-reliance, constant self-improvement, no whining and an antipathy towards getting anything off the inefficient state whether it be healthcare or education or housing.
Oh and the average IQ would increase quite a bit.
        Hard Brexit now!

Didn't know that China was in the EU. Mind you if there is a Brexit, the UK can negotiate with Vanatu to build HS2 and the Congo to build off shore wind farms
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Or we can just do what the hell we want. Then again, a Gidexit would be better.

After a Brexit Britain will spend it's time trying to broker trade deals with all the strings attached. There will be loads of unwanted legislation being brought in to get deals with the EU, China, India and US.

and what happens if Scotland leaves the UK and remains in or joins the EU, so having left to close the border to the EU, we have a huge "hole" in the North, and the free border with Ireland.

There is absolutely no way a British government can close the border between the UK and Ireland without starting a civil war.

So even after a Brexit and huge barbed wire fences errected around Dover and Folkstone, EU citizens will be able to take a flight to Dublin or Glasgow and freely wander into Britain without a passport check.
The UK will not be able to stop the free movement of labour across the EU at all.
The change (like all change) will be uncomfortable but in the long run it will be worth it.
Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyone
