There's no need to access the cockpit to get a plane to fly anywhere in range, as long as you can get a convincing-looking device on board
Shouldn't that raise questions about Airport Security as well ? Convincing looking devices even though not real. Haven't there been reports of children's toy guns being checked ?

Also, once the plane is on a tarmac, I believe the process is for the pilots to disembark via their window though not sure if this is still current procedure

Oh, the airport's definitely got more than a few questions to answer. Though wasn't it established pretty clearly in the wake of last autumn's Metrojet crash that Egyptian airport security is not of the best?

Yes agreed, though would have thought they would have upped their game if they wanted to build confidence among the tourists. This is just going to harm their tourism further

I guess the guy, being in Europe now, will be classed as an asylum seeker, no charges will be pressed on the hijacking, and he'll be on his way to a life of free housing, healthcare and money in the UK within weeks.

Could be as simple as wearing an oversized puffer jacket and claiming you've got a suicide vest on. Not much airport security could do, apart from not allowing coats on planes.

You're starting to sound like a parody of the comments on the Daily Mail site

Coats are scanned in Western airports.

You have take take them and any extra layers off.

But if you stand up on the plane and say you've got a bomb, they can't just say "Nah, the airport people would have found it, STFU and sit down." They have to assume you're serious, so everybody's going to Larnaca
