For me it has to be mind bendingly hot and sunny. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabo_d...r_Natural_Park is top of my list.Originally posted by d000hg View PostMove within the EU while you still can, somewhere out of the way in a country which has good free services. Fjords?Comment

Nearing retirement, we're thinking of spending six months a year in the UK and renting six months a year in Southern Europe during the UK winter. That way we get the sun and don't run the risk of buying somewhere abroad we don't like. If we ever found somewhere we really liked we could buy, but you can have an awful lot of winter rentals for the €350k or so it takes to get somewhere decent.
Just one of the options we're mulling over....my quagmire of greed....my cesspit of laziness and unfairness....all I am doing is sticking two fingers up at nurses, doctors and other hard working employed professionals...

Tis true. You can rent a fantastic four bed detached villa with a pool and nice gardens long term for about £500 a month (at current exchange rate). In the UK you can rent a bedsit in Bradford for that amount.Originally posted by Lockhouse View PostNearing retirement, we're thinking of spending six months a year in the UK and renting six months a year in Southern Europe during the UK winter. Usual idiotic response. Most UK immigrants in Spain for example, are either well off living on a stonking pension or running businesses such as bars, hotels, restaurants, etc.Originally posted by Support Monkey View PostSo lets get this straight we shouldn't take immigrants but we should all clear off to other countries, so If I emigrate to Australia what will I be? Oh ya an immigrant
Even with it's problems there are a lot worse places than this country
Not many declaring Sharia law or living off benefits.
Another reason to escape the UK. The idiots and cretins per sq mile is off the scale.Comment

For those interested in such things, CH4 has been running a series called "A new life in the sun". It's all on catchup, but basically Brits who have had enough and are starting up businesses in France and Spain.

Note to cretins, starting and running businesses, not living of housing benefits, JSA, income support and demanding the locals change their culture to suit them.Comment

The missus is watching this.We were going to emigrate to France 10 years ago and start a business but that's too much hassle now we're older. If we're out there for six months I wouldn't mind working a couple of evenings a week in a bar or something but don't need the angst of anything else and hopefully won't need the cash.Originally posted by DimPrawn View PostFor those interested in such things, CH4 has been running a series called "A new life in the sun". Lived up north (Darras Hall). Summer was 17 deg c rather than 25 in the south of England. Winter was incredibly cold. Outside the nice bit it is bleak and poverty stricken.Originally posted by d000hg View PostThe North is uncrowded, untroubled by terrorism and still quite homogeneous (to the extent you actually notice when you see a black/chinese person outside a city). Plus, house prices are still sensible (ish).
I'm not sure if the weather is much worse than the south really - it's dry on the east and wet on the west and you get really nice long summer days due to being further north.
You can keep it.Comment

I like bleak (in terms of nature not towns) and don't like above low twenties so I think summers up here are nice although I don't know where that is. And I like proper winters although of course we don't get those these days
and have to settle for gales (also fun).
If you don't enjoy the cold, I guess it can get a bit drab over the winter months although spring is gorgeous around here - 2-3 weeks away I think.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

The last few times I visited London in May it was cold and wet. England seems to be uniformly cold and wet.
We planned that in 2000. We overshot a bit and ended up in Switzerland. No regrets.Originally posted by Lockhouse View PostThe missus is watching this.We were going to emigrate to France 10 years ago ...Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment
