Recruitment Agencies Getting Worse...

Pretty sure a fairly sizable IT recruitment agencies ineptitude has just cost me a six figure contract. Any legal recourse, given that they claimed that my CV had been submitted when it had not? Or is it a case of suck it up and don't bother whinging as it would only mean that I am on their 'do not work with' list?

A little background -
Applied for role on Tuesday, junior recruiter calls five minutes later and, following my consent, claims that I have been submitted - e-mail to that effect received.

Promised feedback within the week. Call on Friday to find she has no recollection of me and initially claims not to have received my CV. This story changes rapidly once I query the 'your CV has been submitted' e-mail to, 'the portal I applied through was/is down and my CV was sent across and she would be in touch shortly.

Didn't feel comfortable with junior recruiters poor attitude so searched out the account manager - had a chat with her and determined my CV had not been submitted or even seen. Queried why and was told the junior recruiter, 'had not handled the situation very well'. No apology or further explanation offered.

Subsequently contacted, by the account manager, on Friday afternoon with the offer of an interview for the role the following Tuesday, which I accepted.

The account manager then called late on Monday afternoon to say the client had already offered the position to someone who had interviewed last week and I was no longer required.

Needless to say, I am somewhat annoyed by this, but am unsure whether to bother pursuing it any further with the risk of alienating myself with the agency.

So, given that the job was offered to someone, what comeback do you think you have? If you cannot prove that you were more suitable than the person who got the gig, and good luck with that, what case have you got?

Compile your proof that you lost out financially and sue the buggers.

One of those two steps may prove easier than the other.

That's the most mean, hurtful and down right dirty insult I've every had the misfortune of seeing on these forums.

You just got played like a banjo. You never had a chance at the role as they were already trawling the market for the three cheapest mugs and someone simply underbid you. You simply helped them by not doing a few simple things to make sure they are telling the truth about using you.

Unfortunately its the end clients HR departments fault as much as yours. because they insist on making sure they only get a few CV's off each agent. This is so that they don't have to read too many CV's. As a result the agency finds the three most profitable candidates for them and tells the others that they are in with a chance to keep them out the way.

Maybe you need to figure out how you will stop that happening in future.

Yeah, and I lost 500K investment for 1% from a favourite Dragon because they didn't let me pitch to them. I am going to sue BBC.

I lost out on a £10m lottery win thanks to the ineptitude and poor attitude of Camelot that ultimately resulted in them not picking the numbers I had offered them.
