Visa-free travel is hardly immigration, but hey when the Turks hold all the cards what choice do you have? Besides currently the UK can't seem to decide on a coherent immigration policy itself, so might as well let the Germans decide.

Why does Turkey hold all the cards though? Possibly a result of the EU not tackling this in a timely fashion? UK is chucking £500million into the 'Turkey sort this mess out for us' fund. So it's not Germany that's deciding, it's whether or not Turkey keeps to its word - or should that be bribe?

The whole point of the debate is that the UK cannot determine its own immigration policy. So the UKs share of the costs of bribing Turkey is 500 million that is what the UK is obliged to pay as a member of the EU. It is a policy that Merkel has unilaterally decided upon forced upon the rest of the EU by her policy of offering asylum to all refugees. Turkey holds the cards you dullard because it borders Syria and most refugees have to pass through it get to EU countries. So Turkey can choose whether to let them through.
