It was from when the wall came down, all the cheap Turkish labour the Germans had been using were suddenly unemployed and kicked out of Germany due to the influx of cheap east German labourOriginally posted by The_Equalizer View PostBut this mass movement of people aren't just Syrian, far from it. The EU first failed to realise the scale of the problem, then said it could cope - all are welcome - and now has resorted to bribing Turkey mainly due to some guilt hang-up that Germany carries from the War. Basically it's been flip-flopping message-wise and thereby compounding the problem.
The Turkish hate the Germans, Oh!! Until today that is

Oh dear even our Russians have chips on their shoulders about the British class systemOriginally posted by AtW View PostBecause she's got budget proficit with lower taxation to boot, she knows how to run a country unlike those imbeciles who only attended Eton because they were born in the right family.

This country of ours that is run by imbeciles educated at Eton seems to be good enough for you to come and live in? What is wrong with Russia? Is it a coincidence that imbeciles from Eton do not run it?Last edited by DodgyAgent; 10 March 2016, 14:37.

It's been happening since Roman times. Pay off the barbarians or let them sack your civilized cities...

Well I thought at least half of them were and the Turks are hosting what, 3 million of them? I mean Jordan's population is like %20 refugee now I think, or maybe that's Lebanon? They both have a lot and all three of these countries have a lot less means to deal with them than Europe. Seems fair enough to me to get the EU to pony up some cash to house them all.Originally posted by The_Equalizer View PostBut this mass movement of people aren't just Syrian, far from it. Sorry what would the EU need to have done "in a timely fashion" - stop the war in Syria?Originally posted by The_Equalizer View PostWhy does Turkey hold all the cards though? Possibly a result of the EU not tackling this in a timely fashion? UK is chucking £500million into the 'Turkey sort this mess out for us' fund. So it's not Germany that's deciding, it's whether or not Turkey keeps to its word - or should that be bribe?

Thought that was point I was making.Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostThe whole point of the debate is that the UK cannot determine its own immigration policy. So the UKs share of the costs of bribing Turkey is 500 million that is what the UK is obliged to pay as a member of the EU. It is a policy that Merkel has unilaterally decided upon forced upon the rest of the EU by her policy of offering asylum to all refugees. Turkey holds the cards you dullard because it borders Syria and most refugees have to pass through it get to EU countries. So Turkey can choose whether to let them through.
