There is a budget hotel in the middle of Manchester that has the windows painted (very badly) on the wall and even has curtains on it. Quality.

What were they doing to the poor seagulls?

SAP training in 1997 - two choices: the Ibis or Posthouse Forte. Known as "The Abyss" and "Forte Towers". Utterly souless. I was glad when I went contracting and chose my own hotels.

After an experience with the Days Inn on the m56 services I would rather sleep in my car next time. Filthy rooms, stained carpets, saggy bed and a ring of hairs round the edge of the floor in the bathroom.

I actually use Ibis and other Accor hotels quite a lot, maybe they're better in Europe (although I've stayed at the Earls Court one a few times and its okay.) I have the platinum card and business card which gets me upgrades and a 10% discount. All I need is a decent bed, shower and internet which all the ones here have. In the next few weeks I'll be staying in 2 different Mercures, an Ibis, an Ibis Styles, Holiday Inn, Radisson Blu and a B&B (a simple and cheap chain in mainland Europe.) I spent nearly 5 years in an Ibis in Münster, had my own parking space and got the same room each time and all the points I accumulated pays for my accommodation when I go somewhere with Frau D. and we stay in the upmarket Accor hotels.
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Hotels in service stations are for hookers and truckers...

If you had gone a few more miles you could have stayed at the happy guest lodge

Which is next to a truck stop on the a49

And the rooms are hourly rated.

                Allegedly

It was the only hotel that wasn't either 1h+ away or £200+ and we wanted a family room + a double. (I know, NCOTBAC)

Gotcha, I am sure my wife, Daughters and Parents would have been even more impressed with my choice in hotels
