Saddam wouldn't have been around forever. Removing him without any plan for a stable country afterwards was spectacularly idiotic. Why does this even need to be pointed out? -

That's like dismissing North Korea's situation five years ago by saying Kim Jong-Il wouldn't be around forever. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn't existComment

Whether or not it is idiotic depends on your overriding goals.Originally posted by seanraaron View PostSaddam wouldn't have been around forever. Removing him without any plan for a stable country afterwards was spectacularly idiotic. Why does this even need to be pointed out?
Saddam planned, or had started, to sell oil in Euros instead of Dollars.
Gadaffi had grand ideas to found a pan-African bank.
But as far as the Septics are concerned, protecting the dollar's reserve currency status status is vital, come what may, and both of thesee developments if unchecked might have compromised that.
It isn't really primarily "about the oil" anymore, as everyone assumes is axiomatic (and all this stuff about democracy and human rights is just a load of hot air for the consumption of useful idiots)
P.S. The Iranians and Russkies also trade oil in Euros ..Work in the public sector? Read the IR35 FAQ hereComment

The man had no control over the northern or southern parts of the country, no missile capability and no usable Air Force - what was the threat posed by him or his descendants, exactly?Originally posted by LondonManc View Post

And I'm still not seeing the urgency that meant no exit strategy and no state-building strategy which might have prevented the emergence of Daesh or at least provided better local capability for containing it.Last edited by seanraaron; 25 January 2016, 16:07.Comment

Have a read up on Al-Anfal and ask yourself why it was recognised as an act of genocide. Impressive for no usable air force.

Except Iraq was already confirmed to have no chemical weapons - again, unless you were fool enough to believe the show put on at the UN by Colin Powell.Originally posted by LondonManc View Post

Talk me through how they killed 150,000 Kurds like I care how it was done rather than it simply being done.Originally posted by seanraaron View PostExcept Iraq was already confirmed to have no chemical weapons - again, unless you were fool enough to believe the show put on at the UN by Colin Powell. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn't existComment

So what you're saying is the second Iraq war was totally justified because Saddam Hussein was a bad man and the fact that the aftermath was totally arsed up by the US and the UK isn't important, even if it gave a nice place for Islamic State to take root.Originally posted by LondonManc View PostTalk me through how they killed 150,000 Kurds like I care how it was done rather than it simply being done.
I've got that right yes?Comment

So what. Europe's peace is thanks to NATO not the EU. You blather all you like about marginalising people (and you are right) but calling others Xenophobes when we have had immigration and multiculturalism rammed down our throats for the past 20 years it is of little surprise that the people of the EU are against immigration. It is not unreasonable to tell all the young men who are stampeding to Europe to go and sort out their own mess.Originally posted by seanraaron View PostHave you not read any European history? Marginalising and massacring non-natives has been a constant. The fact that England and France haven't had a war in over a century is an anomaly as is the tolerance of Jews. Muslims don't have to be terrorists for Europeans to fear and hate them - just look at the bs Turkish accession was met with BEFORE Erdoğan starting becoming an autocrat.Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment
