    i.e. you didn't need it.

it, therefore, must only apply to those filthy scroungers who are constantly not working, in your eyes?

Seems you have a strange case of double standards.
OK by need, I mean "expect" something better like a big house. I don't expect much out of JSA just £73 a week.

Personally, I think they should make a contribution to my mortgage too when I'm on JSA but thats a new argument. BUT I've got a 4 bed house - I would expect a contribution based on my needs for 2 adults and 2 kids. i.e. 2 bedroom.

The Labourites did a spectacularly good job of obfuscating all this. The Tories didn't explain it particularly well either

        I totally agree.

Ooooh a bit harsh but true

Funniest thing about all this is I know of plenty of people who have refused accommodation because it's too small and they were on the council housing waiting list. They actually wanted properties that were bigger than they needed and then had the cheek to complain when the 'spare room subsidy' was removed.

Ok that was pretty tongue-in-cheek. Even I wont go that far!

But in a similar situation, look at these two situations:-

              1. permie on £40K, paying £750 a month mortgage. Worked for 30 years paying tax all his life. Gets made redundant.

              2. Lazy cow living on council estate. Pops out kids for fun. Never worked in her life and never intends to. Got a 3 bed flat.

No (2) will get all her rent paid for her. Enough money for booze, fags etc.

No (1) won't get a penny for 6 months (I think it is now) to pay the mortgage and will get possibly just £73 a week. Partner might work and bring home £500 a month and then you'll definitely only get £73 a week. Do the maths it just doesn't work out to work.

Sad thing is it pays to be on benefits in this country in some cases.

You have to remember that the above is 'fair'. Of course it's only fair according to the Government's dictionary which has a totally different meaning to the word fair to any other dictionary written by anyone else ever.

While I agree with the subsidy removal, it still seems a bit tough for someone to be thrown out of their family home after 25 years, as could happen.

its not theirs. If they want it to be theirs then they need to buy it. If they do that then sooner or later they will have to sell it so they can subsidise someone else's care home fees as well as their own.

                      1) probably has £200K in equity. Does someone with £200K really need benefits?
