I feel smug, we moved to a cheaper area and got a big house with a tiny mortgage

We need to earn £30k between us for life to be bearable, anything else and we're laughing

So worst case we can survive if one of us is out of work, and the other has to take a permie job

So however bad it gets we will survive

I couldn't cope with the sleepless nights of worrying about interest rate rises and being reliant on a contractor lifestyle
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

Well that suggests living beyond their means really, in which case I have little sympathy. To do that on 4 or 500 quid a day takes some doing unless you're pretty reckless IMHO.

Perhaps my outlook stems from never using credit? I'm kinda unique like that.
      I'm a smug bastard.

        What's IR35?

I've met a few contractors who are skint by the time they are 'paid'. All had high maintenance lifestyles. Private school fees, status cars, huge mortgages, second homes etc etc. No savings. Some of those guys are going to have a big wake up call.

The ones I'm think of aren't that sensible, they probably don't even know about the proposed changes yet. They act like PAYE.

They typically also don't understand much about running a business at all -- VAT & CT ("account does it all"), Dividends vs PAYE ("yup he does that too"), expenses ("I send my receipts to the accountant once a year"), etc,.... The same ones that wonder why they get to pay HMRC's fine if/when their shoddy accountants miss the VAT return (okay, so the accountant should be strug up too...)
